Roar

The Tibetan gong sounds...
Dies slowly in the air

*

Air conditioner, low dull roar

Scratch of pen on paper, hush,
Like a purposeful wind

*

Heel of writing hand sliding across paper

*

Swallowing, shuffling, coughing, inhale, exhale

*

Click of closing fountain pen cap

*

“Sound” without sound

Like a fire in an absent crematorium,
A distant benign silent roar.

Words are unfortunate,
They could do better,
Their still small hopeful voices
